MISD sponsors unity walk
The Macomb Intermediate School District is a proud sponsor of the 35th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration of Macomb County. This is an important event coordinated by the Interfaith Center for Racial Justice (ICRJ) and has been a valuable opportunity for Macomb County to come together in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This event celebrates the legacy of a man vital to the Civil Rights Movement and the continued pursuit of equal rights and justice. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, this federal holiday is observed as a national day of service. While most students will not attend school this day, the hope is that it is used as a "day on, not a day off."
With this in mind, this year’s celebration will recognize Dr. King’s legacy with a Walk for Unity. This short walk will start at Mt. Clemens High School (an important historic and civic landmark in our county) and proceed east on Church Street to Grace Episcopal Church (just under a 1⁄2 mile). MISD buses will be available to shuttle walkers back to the Mt. Clemens High School parking lot.
The MISD, on behalf of its 21 local districts, would like to invite students from all Macomb County schools to participate in this symbolic Walk for Unity. Interested students should meet at 10:30 a.m. on January 17 at Mt. Clemens High School, located at 155 Cass Avenue, Mt. Clemens, and check in with MISD staff upon arrival. The MISD will make a donation to the ICRJ in the name of all students attending the walk, to help support future MLK Day events and the work of the ICRJ in Macomb County.
Please contact Sean McBrady with any questions about student participation in the Walk for Unity.

Thank you for sharing with your students this opportunity to make January 17 a “day on” and to celebrate MLK Day.
