Return to School 2021-22

Based on current conditions and guidance, Clintondale Schools plans to implement the following health protocols for the 2021-22 academic year. These protocols apply to all school activities, including athletics. However, if federal, Michigan or Macomb County guidance changes requirements, mandates or a public health order, we will comply immediately. We will also continue to communicate transparently and regularly with our community.

It's recommended that students wear a face mask in school, and we are requiring that staff and adult visitors wear a face mask in our buildings. Mask wearing played a key role last year in keeping virus transmission inside our schools low. The decision on whether to have your child wear a mask in school will be up to each family. We will work with families to accommodate their child's needs and comfort levels so that all students have a safe learning environment and an enjoyable experience.

All students and staff are required to wear masks on school buses regardless of vaccination status. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention's order requires face masks on public transportation and at transportation hubs.

These steps are in alignment with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, which:

•  Recommends that everyone (including fully vaccinated individuals) wear a mask in public indoor settings to help prevent the spread of COVID - especially the Delta variant - and to protect others.

•  CDC recommends that fully-vaccinated people who have a known exposure to someone with COVID get tested 3-5 days after exposure and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test.

•  Additionally, fully-vaccinated people might choose to wear a mask regardless of the level of transmission, particularly if they are immunocompromised or at increased risk for severe disease from COVID, or if they have someone in their household who is immunocompromised, at increased risk of severe disease or not fully vaccinated.

The COVID vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your family, our students and our community from the virus, including the highly-contagious Delta variant, which accounts for most positive cases in Michigan and the United States. According to CDC, there are 71 Michigan counties, including Macomb, that are now places of "substantial" or "high" transmission, and its recommended residents once again mask indoors, even if they are already vaccinated.

At this time, all people who are 12 years old or older can receive the vaccine at no charge. Anyone wishing to get their child vaccinated should start the process now. Many healthcare partners are also welcoming walk-ins to receive the vaccine. If you have questions about the COVID vaccine, talk to your healthcare provider or call MDHHS at 888-535-6136 or the Macomb County COVID helpline at 586-463-3750. The helpline is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Our partners at the Macomb County Health Department will be contact tracing positive cases and will guide the school district if/when quarantining is necessary.

Students or staff members who experience symptoms associated with COVID or test positive for COVID must stay home from school and school-related activities. Anyone who tests positive for COVID must follow county health department guidelines and may return to school at the end of their isolation period (and improved symptoms).

Students experiencing specific COVID-like symptoms during the school day will be referred to the school nurse for further assessment. The health professional will determine appropriate next steps. If  a parent/guardian is contacted to pick up an ill student, the student must be picked up in a timely manner. Please make sure to have your emergency contact information updated via the PowerSchool Portal before the first day of school.

You can help keep our schools open and safe this fall by keeping your child home when they are sick. All students and staff are encouraged to get their flu vaccine this year and the COVID vaccine when they are eligible.
